Partner visas are suitable for applicants who wish to migrate to Australia on the basis of having a de-facto partner or spouse who is an Australian Citizen or a Australian Permanent resident. Partner visas are a two stage process A temporary visa is granted first leading to a Permanent Visa subject to fulfilling certain conditions.

Partner visa (Onshore) – subclass 820/801
Prospective Marriage visa – subclass 300
Suitable for applicants intending to marry an Australian Citizen or Australian Permanent resident.This is a temporary visa which allows the applicant to travel to Australia and marry the prospective Partner.After the marriage takes place the applicant can apply for a partner visa onshore.
Partner visa (Offshore) – subclass 309/100
Suitable for applicants who wish to apply for a partner visa offshore.Once the temporary visa subclass 309 is granted the applicant can travel to Australia and live onshore till the time the permanent visa subclass 100 is granted.
Partner visa (Onshore) – subclass 820/801
Suitable for applicants who are already in Australia and wish to apply for a partner visa onshore.The applicant is granted a bridging visa till the decision on the temporary subclass 820 is taken by the Department.After the grant of 820 visa the applicant can apply for the permanent visa subclass 801 when eligible.
